Calorie Calculator

Estimate how many calories you need per day to maintain, lose or gain weight. Uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the formula recommended by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics — plus your activity level.

Daily calories to maintain weight (TDEE)
2,662 kcal/day
BMR (at rest)
1,718
Mild weight loss (−250)
2,412
Weight loss (−500)
2,162
Weight gain (+300)
2,962

Estimates use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Consult a professional before major diet changes.

How it works

BMR (basal metabolic rate) = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + s, where s = +5 for men and −161 for women (Mifflin-St Jeor). TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) = BMR × activity factor (1.2 sedentary up to 1.725 very active).

Frequently asked questions

How many calories should I eat to lose weight?

A common target is 500 kcal/day below your TDEE, which yields roughly 0.5 kg (1 lb) of fat loss per week. Don't go below 1200 kcal (women) / 1500 kcal (men) without medical guidance.

Why Mifflin-St Jeor?

Studies show it predicts resting metabolic rate more accurately than the older Harris-Benedict equation for modern populations.
